The List of Wedding Photos

Do we need a wedding Photography checklist? Well yes, especially if you are just starting out. True, an experienced professional wedding photographer might internalise a lot of the items on the list. But they still needed to use that list when learning the trade. And there will always be variations on the list because every client wants a few personal items.

Perhaps this list of wedding photos is something we should address in regards to the bride and groom rather than the wedding photographer. They discuss their expectations with the photographer and make sure that he or she knows the photos they want. And the photographer makes some suggestions too because their experience with other clients has shown the images that prove popular and effective.

What we most want to avoid is the regret later on when we realise there were a few photos that we should have taken. Only the wedding day is over and opportunity is long past.

Modern Digital Wedding Photos

It is easier today to get all the photo images we want. A generation ago, in the days of traditional film, negatives, and prints, it costs money every time we pressed click on the camera. There were a limited number of exposures on a roll of film, and we had to make each one count. And even when we had the film developed it cost money to print each photo. Now, in the age of digital photography, there is almost always a memory to spare. And a new memory card is inexpensive. We can afford to experiment and take as many photos as we like, discarding anything that is not worth keeping. This means we can have a long list of items we would like to see on the photos and expect to make several attempts at each. We can then just print out the images that turned out well.

In addition to those images we plan in advance the wedding photographer will also capture some of the spontaneous moments of the wedding event. These spontaneous images should provide a nice contrast to the formal images of the relatives standing in line.
