Advice Wedding Photography Sydney

Preparation is more than half the process in any endeavour. Of course, we never quite know what to expect in advance, every situation is at least a little different. But if we prepare in every realistic way we find most things go smoothly, and the unexpected events are the exception rather than the pattern.

For weddings, there are two main forms of preparation. The obvious one is learning the photography craft and technical requirements of the equipment. The other is the preparation for the individual event.

Arrange an Engagement Shoot – This is also called a pre-wedding shoot. Basically, we take some photos of the engaged couple in a few choice locations. We avoid the idea of this being a rehearsal – it is an event in its own right, and we should get some good images. But it also familiarises us with the two individuals.

Visit the wedding Location in Advance – There will be a ceremony location and a reception location. And there will be some time spent taking photos in between these two events. Look at the locations beforehand, and find the best places to take photos, where the lighting is good, and where to stand in order to be inconspicuous. You will need to take shots of the people arriving, and the couple taking their vows. Where is the best place to stand when taking these shots?

Consider the timeline –  Is there a great place for sunset shots? The newlyweds with the sun setting behind Sydney Harbour, perhaps. Is there a great place for early morning images? The bride and bridesmaids dressed on the balcony in front of a sunrise. Does the local park river look great in the afternoon Sun? Arrange to be at these locations at the best time.

Outside interference – Other people taking photos can sometimes get in the way. The master of ceremonies can ask the audience to refrain from using phones and cameras for certain times of the service.

Choose your Co-workers – If you work with a videographer it helps if you don’t get in each other’s way. Discuss this in advance, and see what can be done to avoid clashes.
