Wedding Photographer Sydney
Choosing a photographer can be a little tricky. There are many wedding photographers Sydney-wide, who vary in artistic style and services. A few can vary the style to suit the occasion, or the customer’s taste. Most will be able to combine posed images (all the wedding guests in neat rows) with images that capture spontaneous moments of the day. Yet there will still be differences in how different photographers capture this.
Old Traditional Wedding Photographer Sydney
There is less demand for traditional photography today. A few generations ago we mostly saw formal photos (usually black and white) of people standing in line, with serious expressions on their faces. This came from a time when people had to stand very still for photos, which took several seconds for proper exposure. The style continued even when cameras could take near-instant photos. But we should not dismiss this entirely. Some formal, traditional black-and-white photos can look rather good. These are usually the bride and groom in front of the altar, and in from of the church. Not too much variation, but the right ‘formal wedding’ atmosphere.

For the past generation, we are more inclined to take formal photos in a variety of outdoor settings. The happy couple will stand in the botanical gardens, the edge of Sydney Harbour, in front of a few famous landmarks… There are posed shots, but far less stuffy that the old black and white images of our grandparent’s era. And they have the appearance of a little spontaneity.
Many wedding photographers will have some favourite Sydney sites that they will work well for photos. They also tend to know the best time of day (when the sunlight is just right) to get the best photographic wedding images. Often they will be open to suggestions about new locations. Make these suggestions in advance, so the photographer can scout the locations ahead of time, perhaps finding when the lighting is best.
Preparation Wedding Photos
This is something that probably developed from wedding magazines. There were always magazine articles about preparing flower arrangements or finding just the right shoes and cuff links for the big day. And the photos of those perfect shoes and cuff links next to the article looked great. So many young couples started to include photos of all the details that went into preparing the wedding. There were shots of the rings, the bouquet, the shoes, something borrowed and blue, that family heirloom … when we consider how the bride’s shoes might never appear in most traditional wedding photos, hidden under her long train, we are glad they get a feature photo.
Wedding Photographer Sydney Captures The Spontaneity.
This is something we do a lot in this era of smartphones- capturing a silly moment, the child being cheeky, the practical joke, the minor detail that went wrong, or just two people laughing. Every social event worth attending has those odd moments that stay in our memory. There is skill in capturing the unique moments on film and capturing the atmosphere of the event.
